EVC 2 faq

Here you can find the most frequent questions and answers about the EVC 2 electric vehicle charger.

What happens if I unplug the cable during charging?

Is there a risk of electric shock? During charging, the charger and car lock the cable in place, so it cannot be disconnected accidentally. The charger includes multiple protective systems to ensure safe operation, even in unusual situations, when installed by a qualified professional.

Do I need to update the charger software, or does it do that automatically?

If the charger is connected to the internet, updates install automatically. If not, you can update manually via Bluetooth. The app will notify you if a new update is available. You can find the details on the changes and new features from firmware here.

Can I lock the charger so strangers don’t use it?

Yes. You can enable authorisation, requiring either the app or an NFC card to start charging. The charger supports multiple NFC cards, which can be used like keys.

I have a battery system at home. How will it interact with solar mode?

The charger only detects exported energy to the grid. This means your household devices – kettles, AC units, heaters, boilers, or batteries – take priority. Typically, your battery system will charge first, and only then will the charger use any remaining excess solar power for your car.

How does the solar functionality work?

Solar charging depends on the same smart meter used for load balancing. With solar mode enabled, the meter tracks excess solar energy that would otherwise be exported back to the grid (often not economically beneficial). Instead, the charger uses this excess power to charge your car. Thanks to phase balancing and adjustable modes and settings (read more about it here), the charger can optimize charging during low-power generation times (mornings, evenings, autumn, winter, spring), helping you achieve the lowest possible cost per kilometer driven.

Can I change the look or color of the charger after I install it?

Yes. Cosmetic front plates are available to order separately as accessories.

Is the charger safe to use in heavy rain or snow?

Yes. The charger has an IP56 dust and water resistance rating, meaning it can withstand even harsh weather conditions when installed correctly by a qualified professional

If my power at home is limited, can the charger overload my system?

No. When properly set up, it won’t. You can manually adjust the charger power from 6 to 32 amps (1.4 to 22 kW depending on the model). With supported accessories (smart metering devices), you can also use the dynamic load balancing option (read more about it here). This ensures the charger automatically adjusts power usage to avoid overloading your system (e.g., if you turn on a high-power device like a kettle, the charger will instantly reduce charging power).

The app shows many settings – which ones do I actually need daily?

The app is designed so that, once you set up the device, it runs automatically. Beyond checking statistics, you don’t need to use the app daily.

How do I know what load balancing options or other accessories I need?

It’s best to consult an electrician experienced in EV charger installations. The right setup depends on your electrical cabinet, distance to the charger installation spot, available cabinet space, installation costs, Wi-Fi coverage, and other factors. Our partners are trained to explain all available options and guide clients toward the most cost-efficient and reliable solution.

I cannot see the settings in the app while I am in the office. How do I start charging remotely?

The Teltonika EV Charging application works via Bluetooth on iOS devices, or via Bluetooth and local network (Wi-Fi) on Android devices. The device is designed for a “set it and forget it” usage model, where you set up and automate the charging pattern, so you don’t need to access the app daily. If you want charging to start at a specific time (e.g., when electricity is cheaper), you can automate this using the built-in scheduling features.

What’s the difference between using the socket option and the cable option?

The cable option is more convenient for everyday home use — you just need to plug in one end, saving time. The socket option creates a tidier setup and allows flexibility if you want to use shorter or longer cables (1.5 to 15 meters are available from other vendors for Type 2 cables).

How do I set the charger to only work at night when electricity is cheaper?

Use the scheduling feature in the main menu. You can set different schedules for weekdays and weekends, and choose whether to use solar power or grid power at different times. If the car is plugged in, charging will start and finish automatically according to your timetable.

I have 2 EV cars, can i connect multiple chargers to use the same load balance?

Yes, you can connect multiple chargers together to share and balance the same power availability. One of the charger is set up as the primary device for the overall set up and manages the other – secondary device power consumption by communicating with them and the smart energy meter.

Where can I find more in-depth information about charger features or a full user guide?

The most up-to-date information is available on our Wiki page, where you can find certifications, manuals, datasheets, and user guides. For advanced questions, you can also visit our community forum.

Do I need Wi-Fi for the charger to work, or can it run without internet?

No, all charger functionalities can be set up without any internet connection, just via Bluetooth. This means you can use all smart functions even if your parking spot is deep in an underground garage.

I bought a 22kW device, but my electric vehicle charges slower. How come?

The final charging speed depends on many factors, including whether your car model supports AC charging at that speed, available household power, the temperature of the battery, the current battery charge level, and other factors. Check your car manufacturer’s specifications for the expected charging power and speeds for AC charging.
