YOUR DATA RIGHTS UNDER THE EU DATA ACT - WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH OUR APP DATA

Introduction

UAB Teltonika Energy, a company registered in Lithuania, is the manufacturer of the connected products „TeltoCharge“ (1st generation) and „EVC 2“ (2nd generation), which operate with the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application. These products connect via Bluetooth and OCPP (optional), enabling users to monitor and manage their charging activities.

The EU Data Act (Regulation (EU) 2023/2854) applies from 12 September 2025 and establishes rules on the fair access to and use of data generated by connected products and related services. In simple terms, the regulation ensures that users of connected devices can access, download, and share the data those devices generate, in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.

In the context of the EU Data Act, the user of our product is the “data holder” — meaning that the data generated by the charging station and the mobile app belongs to the user. Teltonika Energy does not have access to, store, or otherwise retain this data. All data remains on the user’s device and can be directly accessed and exported by the user through the Teltonika EV Charging app.

This statement applies worldwide, wherever our products are used, with EU Data Act rights being ensured where the regulation is applicable.

What Data You Can Download

When using the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application with your TeltoCharge (1st generation) or EVC 2 (2nd generation) charging station, you can access and export the following categories of data generated locally by your charger:

1.     Session Data –

o   Energy delivered (kWh);

o   Charging type (grid or solar);

o   Charging duration;

o   Session start and end times;

o   Session cost (if configured).

2.     Charger Status Data –

o   Current operating state (Available, Charging, Suspended, Faulted);

o   Error codes;

o   Charger temperature;

o   Firmware version.

3.     User Settings –

o   Charging schedules;

o   Authentication preferences (RFID card, app start);

o   Renewable energy configuration settings.

4.     Installer Settings –

o   Installation parameters;

o   Load balancing and load management settings;

o   Renewable energy configuration settings;

o   Communication settings with third-party devices.

5.     Maintenance and Diagnostics –

o   Partially plain text, partially binary diagnostics file;

o   Live diagnostics data;

o   Firmware version.

Format and Access

  • Data can be exported in .xlsx, .log formats.

  • Export is possible in two ways:

    1.     Bluetooth connection directly between the mobile app and the charger;

    2.     OCPP connection, when the user has connected the charger to an OCPP server of their choice.

  • Users can select a specific time frame via the in-app calendar function to download either all data for that period or only selected time frame.

  • Exports include metadata such as the time zone, date, and charger serial number.

    Limitations

  • Data stored by third-party OCPP backends or any other data not listed above is not downloadable from the app.

  • The app only displays and exports data generated locally by the charger.

  • There are no retention limits — data remains available in the app until you choose to delete it or uninstall the app and it‘s data.

How to Access and Export Your Data

You can export data from your TeltoCharge (1st generation) or EVC 2 (2nd generation) charging station through the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application using either a Bluetooth connection or an OCPP connection.

1. Export via Bluetooth

When your charger is connected to the app via Bluetooth, you can:

a) Usage Data Export

1.     Open the app and choose your charger.

2.     On the main charger window, select “View all usage” on the dashboard.

3.     Press the button in the top right corner.

4.     Select the desired time frame of usage.

5.     Press “Download”.

6.     Open the downloaded file in the app’s downloads list.

7.     Press the share icon in the top right to save it to your phone or share it elsewhere.

b) Diagnostics Data Export

1.     Open the app and choose your charger.

2.     Press the settings icon in the top right.

3.     Select “Diagnostics” → “Troubleshoot file”.

4.     Choose “Download troubleshoot file”.

5.     Open the troubleshoot file from the app’s downloads list.

6.     Press the share icon in the top right to export.

Bluetooth-based downloads take up to 5 seconds and require the charger to be powered on.

2. Export via OCPP

If your charger is connected to an OCPP backend, you can trigger exports in the same way as without connection to an OCPP backend.

  • The app retrieves data live from the charger via Bluetooth.

  • For export procedures there are no technical restrictions on our side.

3. User Controls

  • You can filter and export specific sessions or select a custom time range.

  • There is no maximum time range for exports.

  • Exports can be repeated as often as you wish.

4. Security and Permissions

  • Before exporting, the app must be paired with the charger using a unique, charger-specific code.

  • Usage data is exported in .xlsx format.

  • Diagnostic files contain a small amount of plain text and other sections are in binary data.

5. Additional Notes

  • Export works offline when using Bluetooth (as long as the charger is powered on).

  • Exports are instantaneous, even if the charger is in use.

  • Upon completion, a confirmation bar appears at the bottom of the screen.

Sharing Your Data with Others

As the user of a TeltoCharge (1st generation) or EVC 2 (2nd generation) charging station, you are the data holder under the EU Data Act. This means you have full control over the data generated by your charger and the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application.

1. User-Initiated Sharing

  • You can freely share your exported .xlsx, .log files with any recipient of your choice using your own preferred method (e.g., email, cloud storage, USB).

  • Files are first downloaded to your mobile device from the app and can then be shared through any available sharing method on your device.

  • Teltonika Energy will not share your data with any third party unless you initiate the sharing.

2. Automatic Sharing via OCPP

  • If you connect your charger to an OCPP backend of your choice, all relevant data will also be sent automatically to that backend.

  • This allows the backend operator (e.g., charging network, fleet operator, energy management system) to access your data directly.

  • User consent is required—connecting your charger to an OCPP backend is a voluntary action that enables this data transfer.

  • Teltonika Energy has no contractual agreements with specific OCPP providers—you may connect to any compliant backend without discrimination.

3. Third-Party Access Rules

  • The primary way for a third party to obtain your data is for you to share it manually.

  • If your charger is connected to an OCPP backend, the backend may retrieve your data according to its own system capabilities and policies.

  • Once you share your data, the third party’s own privacy policy and terms will apply—Teltonika Energy is not responsible for how your data is handled after it leaves your control.

4. Security Considerations

  • We recommend sharing your data only with trusted parties.

  • Diagnostic files may contain technical details about your charger and are partially plain text, partially binary data. These files can be fully interpreted only with proprietary software available exclusively to Teltonika Energy.

Personal Data and Privacy

At UAB Teltonika Energy, we respect your privacy and comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the EU Data Act.

We do not store any personal data or usage data from your charger or the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application. The app does not require user registration, and there is no cloud account associated with its use.

  • Bluetooth-only use: No data is sent to Teltonika Energy servers. All data remains on your device and your charger.

  • OCPP-connected use: Data is sent only to the OCPP backend selected by you. We do not operate any backend and cannot access the data sent to it.

The only data we can see is Google Firebase service data, handled in accordance with Google Firebase’s own policies.

If we ever process any personal data (for example, if you contact us directly), we will do so on a lawful basis such as your consent, performance of a contract, or our legitimate interests.

You have rights under GDPR, including the right to access, rectify, erase, and port your personal data, as well as to restrict or object to processing. For full details, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Business-to-Business Access

Teltonika Energy does not store any data generated by your charger or the Teltonika EV Charging mobile application and therefore cannot provide such data directly to other businesses.

Third-party businesses (such as energy providers, fleet operators, or OCPP service providers) can only obtain your charger data in the following ways:

1.     User-initiated sharing – You manually export the data from the app and provide it to the business.

2.     Automatic transfer via OCPP – You connect your charger to an OCPP backend of your choice, and the data is transferred directly to that backend in line with its own policies.

We provide only OCPP connectivity as the integration method for automatic data sharing and do not operate or control any OCPP backend. You may connect your charger to any OCPP-compliant backend without discrimination, and we have no exclusive agreements with any backend providers.

Data sharing that you initiate is free of charge. Teltonika Energy does not provide direct business-to-business data sharing services.

Once your data is shared with a third-party business—whether manually or via OCPP—that business is solely responsible for the security, processing, and further use of your data.

Trade Secrets and Limits

Under Article 4(6) of the EU Data Act, UAB Teltonika Energy is not required to make available any information that qualifies as a trade secret, provided that withholding such information does not prevent users from exercising their right to access and use their data.

We protect the following categories of technical and commercial information as trade secrets:

  • Firmware source code and binaries

  • Encryption keys and security certificates

  • Internal hardware schematics

  • Proprietary communication protocols

  • Manufacturing process details

  • Any other information that qualifies as a trade secret under applicable law

Diagnostic files generated by the charger are partially plain text, partially binary data and require proprietary software available only to authorized Teltonika Energy service personnel. These files are not required for normal user access under the EU Data Act and are used solely by our support team to investigate faults and provide assistance.

By applying these limits, we ensure that all data necessary for your use of the product is accessible while safeguarding our intellectual property and product integrity.
